I've been a volunteer events planner and organizer since I was a student, for our school, sports and parish events. And now that I will be married soon, I thought that I can do everything as well. I've experienced being a lector and commentator, emcee-host, photographer make-up artist, and graphic artist - designer, at the weddings, parties and birthdays of my friends and relatives, even for our big events with thousands of attendees! My mom told me that maybe I could also do it all in my wedding.

With our Wedding Coordinator, Ms. Marg Baula, the Head of the multi-awarded Events Republic Wedding Coordinators Team. |
Even before my fiance and I set the intention to get married, we started researching and attending bridal fairs. Yes, that's years before he "officially" proposed. (Because he already proposed in 2013, right after I said yes to him to be my boyfriend, in front of the Church of the Gesu.) So 5 years ago, we were already planning our wedding but we were overwhelmed with information and choices.
We both realized that planning a wedding is like a full-time job. There’s just so much that goes into planning such an event, regardless of whether it's planning a small, intimate garden affair or a large, ornate ballroom soiree. So we accepted the invitation to attend a Bridal Boot Camp where we learned more about wedding planning.
Two wedding coordinators were there and Ms. Marg Baula (in an elegant black dress) was one of the speakers.
During the question-and-answer portion, one of the participants asked what is the role of the Bridesmaids and Maid of Honor. Being a bridesmaid myself in other weddings, I already researched about this and shared to the Boot Camp attendees the answer below.
So in short, the Bridesmaids and Maid of Honors act like Wedding Coordinators. Ms. Marg agreed and liked my answer, and even told me that she will hire me in her team after my wedding. (Wow!) But one of the biggest myths about wedding coordinators is that soon-to-weds don't need one because the relatives and friends could help. One good friend actually volunteered to be my wedding coordinator. But of course, we also want them to enjoy the wedding so we don't want to stress them anymore.
We were one of the last couples inside the Wedding Boot Camp venue and the Events Republic Coordinators were very busy because many couples were booking them on-the-spot. We were looking at them and the Assistant Coordinator of Ms. Marg told us that she's giving us an additional discount from the discounted price of 17,000 Php if we book on-site. So from 25,000 Php original rate for On The Day Coordination, Ms. Marg said that she will give it to us for only 15,000 Php, with lots of freebies included! Who could resist such an offer? We even got an Events Republic String Bag as an additional freebie! And the best part is Ms. Marg herself will be the Team Leader at our wedding!
Our first meeting, scheduled on October 30 at 10:00 am, was canceled because of Typhoon Rosita. Her next available schedule is after the 1st week of November. But she tried to squeeze our meeting in her very busy schedule and we met on October 31 at 5:00 pm, at their office, The Wedding Library, SM Megamall Building B, 5th Floor.
My supportive mother and aunt were with us and she explained what she will do on our wedding in full details with her iPad as a visual aid. She also patiently answered all the questions of my senior citizen mother, who said that during their wedding 35 years ago, they didn’t have a coordinator,
Ms. Marg told us that she will be leading the team who will coordinate the logistics of our wedding day to make sure that everything that we have spent years planning runs exactly how we envisioned. From the arrival times of the hair and makeup artists, photographers, limousine bridal car, to the pick up of our gifts and goodies at the end of the reception.
My mom innocently asked her, until when will they be present as our coordinator. Ms. Marg jokingly answered, “Until their honeymoon po. Iko-coordinate ko rin ang moves nila sa honeymoon!” Haha! And that’s it! Her sense of humor tells me that she’s the perfect chillax coordinator that we’re praying for.
She told us that she will contact all our suppliers to confirm, and she will be the “stage manager” on our wedding day. She asked for a copy of my contracts so that she can review them and understand exactly who is doing what and when. She will create our day-of timeline, which will break down all the details regarding arrival times, setup and breakdown.
She will also do a site visit with me on November 8, and discuss all of the details we have planned, to get an idea of how we envision the space on our wedding day. We will visit the parish and the hotel, and we're very lucky because on 11.8.18, there are scheduled weddings on both the church and hotel reception!
Before our wedding, she said that she will run the rehearsal, and she will be there to run the show! She assured me, my fiance and my mother that they will be there to make sure that each hour of our wedding day is worry-free and seamless.
She also sent a lot of documents that we need to answer for our wedding, like suppliers and guest list with contact details, and she's making sure that we're really working on our assignment. We're touched that they actually shared our photo on their official Facebook Page with more than 3,300 likes!

Planning the entire wedding without a coordinator is already stressful enough, so the least that we can do is hire someone who can handle the stress of the day. And I know that with the multi-awarded Events Republic, our wedding is in good hands. I am so excited on how they will execute all our plans on the day of the wedding!
